The Nikon Photo Contest International has been held by Nikon Corporation since 1969 to provide an opportunity for photographers around the world to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike. Renowned among photo enthusiasts worldwide, the contest has so far attracted more than 1,220,000 images from a total of 290,000 photographers. In fact, so popular has the contest become among photographers that a total of over 31,000 images were received from more than 10,000 entrants in 117 different countries for the 30th contest alone.
This year’s theme: “At the heart of the image”

There apppears to be no such web site as photofest.com.my – I keep getting ‘page cannot be displayed’. What a waste after full colour page ad in NST today!

I finally managed to encourage the MTC website to open, only to discover it is another of the increasingly common sleight-of-hand Malaysian commercial gimmicks.
In this instance this so-called Malaysian Tourism Commission photo competition is nothing but a way of flogging Japanese company Fuji’s expensive photo printing paper. It is absurd these days that submissions cannot be made – in the first instance at least – as digital images over the ‘net. The inconvenience and cost of obtaining the Fuji paper, printing then posting one’s original digital images makes a farce of this competition for all but the most dedicated photographers – certainly not the regular amateur or, even moreso, genuine tourists.
In addition to boosting Fuji’s coffers the MTC reserves to itself all rights to photo subsmissions and undertakes not to return them to the photographer!
It is significant that the word FUJI appears nowhere in the full colour page ads for this so-called competition in the NST and possibly elsewhere.
